When I think of the question “Why
are we interested in things we don’t understand?” I think of the word
Challenge! The word challenge comes to mind because when I’m interested in
something I don’t understand I challenge myself to understanding what it is I’m
interested in. I also challenge myself into trying to figure out why I’m even
interested in something I’m not sure of what exactly it is.
For example when I was younger I would
be in the car singing the songs on the radio and jus singing the words like I knew
what I was singing. Then my mom would turn it off and ask me “what are you
singing?” I would just tell her the
title of the song but she would tell me “I know what song it is, but do you
know what you’re singing about?” I would sit there clueless trying to figure
out what to tell her. So she would then ask me what about the song do I like,
and I would always tell her it’s the beat and the chorus. With me telling her
that of course she then asks “what’s the chorus talking about?” I would once
again sit there clueless because I really didn’t know why I liked the chorus or
what it meant. So from that day on every time I heard that song I would really
listen to the chorus and try to challenge my young brain and figure out why I was
interested in the songs.
After really listening to some of
the songs I would then understand what I was listening to the best I could. Some
of the songs where songs that I shouldn’t have been singing because they were
talking about things kids shouldn’t be listening to nor repeating. As I got
older and started to really be able to understand completely what these artist
were saying I noticed I still liked some of the songs but only because the
chorus was catchy and the beat was nice. So to me something’s that we’re
interested in that we don’t understand at the time and we challenge ourselves to
figure out exactly what it is that we like might be the smallest thing of what
it is we are interested in.
