In the book, They Poured Fire on us From the Sky, I feel as
if the author portrays “family” in several different ways; whether it’s true
blood relations to one another that makes up a single family or just the people
within their village making up a family, both are being treated as the same
type of relationship. I really feel like the author depicts greatly on how
family doesn’t always mean they are siblings, cousins, aunts or uncles; it can
just be the wide meaning of loving each other and caring for those who you
love.
In this story, it is evident that the young boys of the
village are being shown as brothers and when one doesn’t stick with the bunch—it
is frown upon because family means forever being by each other’s side. They
will always eat dinner together and go to each true family’s houses at supper
and share laughs with one another as real brothers would do. They experience
pain and harsh times with each other and that is what the author wants to show
is how each day of struggle, brings each one of them closer together as a
family.
The aspects of family coming from the author is simply just
what I explained; being together and growing as individuals, sharing love and
bravery with one another is what a family is about. This village is completely all
family orientated, but at some moments, it’s not always clear to the reader
until all these stories really come together and form a whole loving
relationship through each character’s story coming from the author.
The relationship with my family shows just the same pieces,
but in different ways. My family comes together for dinner, supports one
another in everything they do, and stands up for each other when one falls
down. Comparison to the story; I see the village working as a single person.
Culture differences are extremely out of range from where I sit and what I know
as a family, but that’s where it becomes interesting in these stories; I’m
taking in a whole new life’s perspective and living in a completely different
world than these characters and how the author illustrates his young life.
Families have responsibilities, duties, morals, values, and aspects,
which may or may not relate to another’s family that probably might seem the
same, but could actually be strongly diverse in numerous ways. What I mean by
that, is essentially everyone has their own story behind what is being said or
what is shown; but at the end of the day, family will always mean one thing to
me, and that is loving those certain people in your life without any
hesitations. Blood relation or not; sometimes love is more than what we think
it is and this book, They Poured on Us From the Sky, I perceive that meaning being
reflected.
