Day: 2 Book

Well the book i chose was "they poured fire". While they were naming off the books i kind of already had my mind set on this one. It seemed interesting and i did not know much about the topic at hand. The wars and/ conflict in Africa always eluded the high school curriculum. It also seemed to help the fact that not many people picked the book, I don’t like following others.
So far I’ve read about this man who lives in New York, has a son, and was skeptical when first asked to show these three young men around the city. Questions like who are they, what are they like, what do they look like, and even will they or I become attached. He takes them on a small tour of the city taking them to go shop and eat. To his surprise they aren’t jumping head over heels for material things. In meeting these three young men he finds himself intrigued about their life and where they came from. He was stunned to see the excitement from the boys when they saw notebooks, and he himself was excited to see what they were going to write about. He found that all the boys were extremely humble and well mannered. He knew that each one of these boys had their own unique story.
The actually story starts off with one of the young men Benson’s childhood. He talks about his mother. He describes her as a brave strong and talented woman. She has a mark for bravery on her forehead and explains that she herself can actually go fight in battle with the rest of the men if she so chooses. She also has more privileges then the other women/ wives. She still chooses to do what’s best for her family.
The next chapter is another point of view from the brother of Benson, Alepho he describes Benson as the child who never complained. Benson was 2 years older than Alepho. Alepho describes himself was the problem child, always creating trouble and fighting. He described one instance of him picking up sand and pretending to sneeze, spraying sand all over his family’s food. Then he would question why they stopped eating. He mentions one of his favorite friends named Achol. It seems like a crush to me the way he describes how he used to wake up early and if she wasn’t up he’d wait for her. He calls her an angle, and says that she feels safe around him. So far I enjoy hearing about their childhood, because they grew up so much differently then I or anyone else not living their town. i look forwar to reading more about their lives.
